Great camera with great features,
Who I am: Amature photographer. I used a manual SLR before digital cameras came out. This is my first Digital SLR.
What I really like about this camera:
1) I ended up selecting this camera over the the others I was considering because of the movie features. This camera can record amazing HD vidoes. The quality was amazing, even on my 58 inch tv. But, I knew I would mainly want short vidoes I could play on my computer and burn to a DVD. Of the cameras I was interested in, only Sony recorded directly to MPEG. Most of the others used different formats and would need to be post-processed to convert them. I have shot pictures of my son’s basketball games and events on my trip. Though the vidoes cannot be long, they are good quality.
2) I love the panoramic picture feature. I finally bought a DSLR because I was going on my dream trip to Ireland. I knew I would want to take a lot of pictures while hiking the country side. I brought back some amazing photos. I used it w/o a tripod and still had great pictures. It takes a little practice to learn how fast and how far it will go. But, it was pretty intuitive.
3) The battery life was very good. I took a lot of pictures every day. Most days, I still had 90% of my battery left. Note, I prefer using the optical view finder which helps with battery life. But, I never got below 70% remaining.
This camera package:
I purchased this package mainly because I got the camera and the extra battery I wanted for a lot less than buying them separately. The other items were extras that I probably wouldn’t have purchased. I am using the bag which is simple and functional. I also prefer to use the UV filter. This is a really good value if you want the extra battery.
I can’t speak for professional photographers. But, if you are like me, an above average amature photographer who knows how to manually control a camera, but prefers not to – this is a great camera. It is fast enough to catch the action shots of my kids. In auto mode, it does surprisingly well in gyms with less than optimal lighting. And when you want to play and do more, you can. I highly recommend it.

I looked at all the major internet camera sites and this is by far the best deal. For the same price as others sell you the 580 and the kit lens, you also get a UV filter, extra battery, 16gb SD card, card wallet, camera bag and cleaning kit. I chose the free shipping option and received everything two days after placing the order one afternoon.
I’ll follow up with a review of the camera itself after taking it on vacation with me shortly.

|My first DSLR camera and it’s been great,
I actually chose to buy this over more reputable camera brands like Nikon and Canon mainly because of the sensor ratings i researched online from different sites. i’m glad i took the chance on this sony i haven’t found a single thing to complain about. i’m not a professional photographer or anything so maybe it lacks in areas that i’m not too familiar with but as far as i know it does everything 10x better than the high end compact cameras i used before.
i actually had friends with more camera experience tell me i made a mistake no buying a nikon. after they saw my vacation photos they couldn’t believe how good they were and that they were taken with a sony. it shoots fast and steady, i haven’t noticed any blur with my images. 16 megapixel is great for large prints and cropping out smaller prints. also the bundle has just about everything you need. the only thing i would like to buy for it still is a long range lens, 300mm or so.
